THOR Research Institute

The THOR Research Institute (TRI) is a virtual entity that is comprised of investigators that span the translational research pipeline from basic science to clinical trials to implementation science. The TRI is eligible to submit funding applications for federal funding in the US. The TRI collaborates with academia, industry, and federal agencies to perform research in the area of resuscitation science.

The TRI also collaborates with industry to support licensure applications for devices and biologics in addition to educational programs.

Previous and current TRI projects include:

  1. Development of a clinical trial to examine the safety and efficacy of cold stored platelets in patients with leukemia and thrombocytopenia.
  2. Development of evidence-based recommendations for the treatment of females of childbearing potential with severe bleeding and the prevention/treatment of alloimmunization to reduce the risk of hemolytic disease of the fetus and newborn.
  3. Comparing the hemostatic effect of multiple sources of fibrinogen in in vitro models of hemostasis.
  4. Development of an online calculator that determines the hemostatic content of different blood products.
  5. Designing studies to determine the efficacy and safety of a blood and IV warming system for use in the prehospital and in-hospital setting.
  6. Establishment of a series of focus groups to educate clinicians on emerging therapies in transfusion medicine.
